The first Debate Tournamentfor Law Students

Two training sessions, preliminary rounds, semi-finals and a final: the Society’s inaugural debate tournament, held in the American Parliamentary format in May 2024.

In April 2024 the Society announced its inaugural Debate Tournament for Law Students: preliminary, semi-final and final rounds from 6 to 10 May, and two training sessions on 2 and 3 May to prepare participants. The session on 3 May was delivered by Dr Abbas Abbasov.

On 6 May the teams met in the preliminary rounds, and the four with the best results went through to the semi-finals. In the final, the team of Aysel Salimova and Khayala Eyvazli won; Erkin Aslanli and Gadir Safarli were runners-up.

Dr Abbasov, who also advised on the organisation of the tournament, judged the final with Professor Rodrigo Labardini. The Society also hosted four professors from American University Washington College of Law, one of whom completed the final’s three-judge bench. It thanked ADA Law School for its continued support, and every participant for their work.
